Today’s Top 5: Covers Under The Covers

other people always let you down

I decided not to write (for money) today so I can focus on myself.  This is probably the best decision I’ve made all week.

This week has been topsy-turvy and I needed to get back to center again, especially after last night.  Some time between 5:30 AM and 9:00 AM, I managed to have a fairly disturbing dream about my ex-boyfriend.  It just set a weird tone for the morning and I’ve been actively trying to shake it off all day.

I’ve forced myself to be proactive about my well-being this morning.  I called both the nutritionist and the sleep specialist I was referred to and scheduled consultations.  Needing to see these specialists is a hard reality to face, but if they will improve my quality of life, I’m more than willing to see it through.  My health hasn’t been the best this year, and there is a lot of stuff I’ve been putting off and ignoring for way too long.

The day was wonderful.  I took a nap, I read a bit.  I curled up under covers and took ANOTHER nap.  Fantastic.

On that note, I present you with Today’s Top 5: Covers Under The Covers.  These are some great cover songs, perfect for cuddling up and napping.

1. “The Freshman” by Jay Brannan (The Verve Pipe cover)
2. “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bon Iver (Bonnie Raitt cover)
3. “Runaway” by Sarah Winters (Kanye West cover)
4. “Dancing in the Dark” by Ruth Moody (Bruce Springsteen cover)
5. “Hey Ya” by Obadiah Parker (Outkast cover)

Today’s Top 5: Chronic Pain Mix

Today has been pretty miserable for my body.  BUT, seeing as how it’s NaBloPoMo December, I can’t not post.  When my pain flares up, I like to listen to mellow music to take my mind off of it.  Here’s a rough sample of what I have been listening to today.

1. “Re:Stacks” by Bon Iver
2. “Love Vigilantes” by Iron & Wine (New Order cover)
3. “Between the Bars” by Elliott Smith
4. “Let’s Dance” by M. Ward (David Bowie cover)
5. “Scythian Empire” by Andrew Bird

If you have Google Play Music, go on and click here to listen.

Goodnight, y’all.

Top 5 – Sunday Loving Playlist

Good morning, y’all.

It’s a sunny, blustery day here in Maryland.  My boyfriend has been doing yard work with his brother since 8 AM, leaving me in bed to rest following yesterday’s madness.  I slept in, for the first time in what feels like forever.  When I got up, I threw a pork roast in the slow cooker and by 6 PM, I should have some Korean barbeque ready to be eaten.  The ease of slow cooked meals has changed my life for the better, as now I have more time to write, read, and listen to music

My boyfriend should be coming back to the apartment soon.  In honor of his return, I give you the “Sunday Lovin’ Top 5.”  Enjoy some slow jams perfect for a morning cuddling with your partner.

1. “Lion’s Mane” by Iron & Wine
2. “No Name #3” by Elliott Smith
3. “Holocene” by Bon Iver
4. “Rave On” by M. Ward (Buddy Holly cover)
5. “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star

Once again, I have two listening formats.  Google music users, click here!
